Shanghai Cooperation Organization condemns Israeli aggression against Iran

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s latest military attacks on Iran, denouncing them as a gross violation of international law and a threat to global stability.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s latest military attacks on Iran, denouncing them as a gross violation of international law and a threat to global stability.

According to Press TV, in a statement released Saturday, the Eurasian politico-economic bloc expressed deep concern over escalating tensions in West Asia and denounced Israel’s strikes on multiple targets across Iran in the early hours of June 13. The SCO described the attacks as unjustified aggression against civilian infrastructure, including energy and transport networks, resulting in significant casualties.

“These actions infringe upon Iran’s sovereignty, undermine regional and international security, and pose serious risks to global peace,” the organization stated.

The SCO reaffirmed its stance that disputes over Iran’s civilian nuclear program should be resolved exclusively through peaceful and diplomatic channels. It extended condolences to Iran over the deaths of senior military officials, nuclear scientists, and civilians.

The organization further emphasized its commitment to upholding the principles of the UN Charter and SCO Charter, stating that unlawful attacks against member states would not be tolerated.

Among those killed in the strikes were high-ranking Iranian officials, including Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, IRGC Commander Major General Hossein Salami, and Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters Commander Major General Gholam Ali Rashid. Six nuclear scientists, including Mohammad Mahdi Tehranchi and Fereydoon Abbasi, were also among the casualties.

Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei warned that Israel’s actions would result in severe consequences, stating, “With this crime, the Zionist regime has prepared for itself a bitter, painful fate, which it will definitely see.”

Headquartered in China, the SCO is the world's largest regional organization by area and population, with member states including Iran, China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Iran officially joined the organization as a full-fledged member in July 2023.

The bloc accounts for nearly one-third of global GDP, approximately 40 percent of the world's population, and nearly two-thirds of the Eurasian landmass, positioning itself as a key player in international diplomatic affairs.
